Bon Voyage to Eric Marini
It was with great regret we learned that our committee member and enthusiastic supporter Eric Marini was leaving Sligo for Galway. Eric joined us when he arrived in Sligo six years ago and hardly ever missed any of our monthly sessions since then. A native of Lyon in France who could sing in Irish and English, his rendition of ” Sailing Home to Coney Island ” will be sadly missed. A presentation was made to Eric by club chairman Frank Carter on behalf of all the members of The Sligo Traditional Singers Circle at a farewell gathering party in Durkin’s Ballinacarrow. We wish him every success in his new work and life in Galway and we look forward to seeing him back again at The Frank Finn Traditional Singing Weekend in October 2015 .

Frank Finn Perpetual Cup Under 13’s Traditional/Sean Nós Singing Competition 2013
Across America We were very pleased to be contacted recently by Kevin Donleavy of WTJU-FM a non commercial educational radio station of the University of Virginia. WTJU presents original, rich, and diverse programming of music and other forms of expression free from the direct constraints of commercial interests, reflecting the broadest educational goals of the University. Kevin often plays Sligo music and has included Frank Finn’s own song ” Coolavin Lament” on his program. You can listen to Kevin’s program on Saturdays. It’s called ATLANTIC WEEKLY PART TWO, and it broadcasts on a computer between 3 and 5 pm Irish Time on the same day. Here are the listening steps : First, on the computer, visit www.WTJU.net. Next, select Listen Live on the right side bar. Then, choose between Ogg and MP3. It might be a good idea to practice these steps a few times before the broadcast. Hope you can listen in. Kevin will be coming to The Frank Finn Traditional Singing weekend on 4th to 6th October – we look forward to meeting him

Singing Session in Dolly’s Cottage – Folk Museum and Craft Centre Strandhill – June 2013 It is the ethos of The Sligo Traditional Singers Circle to promote the art of Traditional/Sean Nós singing in Sligo and surrounding area. What better way to do this than to encourage the youth – so we joined up with the senior pupils of Scoil Asicus Strandhill National School in June 2013 for a singing session in Dolly’s cottage . This was our second session with the pupils and this year they had their own Bean an Tí to keep the session moving. The pupils sang solo in Irish and English and also performed as a group. This session gave an opportunity to the children to sing in a non competitive and relaxed environment away from the stresses of competition Members of the singing circle also joined in and we had a great afternoon. Looking forward to meeting them all soon again .
